Zaryadye Park is the central park of Moscow, directly adjacent to Red Square. DS+R architects proposed a series of "augmented microclimates that extend Moscow’s typically short park season through the severe winter months." I helped to design the central pavilion, in which a open air glass canopy creates a 'greenhouse effect' atop the park's largest hill, allowing it to stay temperate through the cold Moscow winter.
scope:
met with the client DS+R to understand their design ideology and constraints
used Computational Fluid Modeling (CFD) to characterize thermal behavior of the structure
integrated seasonal temperature and prevailing wind data into simulations
performed a series of form-finding studies driven by CFD results and thermal first principles
collaborated with structural and MEP engineers to detail technical systems for the canopy
